Talismans were placed from 27s to 26s 6d to 275, and the market closed with demand at 26s 6d, late sellers holding for 26s 9d. Haurakis sold at sd; late sellers b'd, buyers "■Aid. ;". General business continues very active in all departments. The mail steamer has arrived with another largo shipment, and heavy sales have been made for delivery . from ship's side. The Whakatane- has arrived with a general cargo from the West of England ports, and the Star of Ireland is just in from New York, so that the wharf is busy with cargo. The Navua is in from Fiji, and tho Hauroto has left for the Islands with the usual -monthly shipment. The maize market has been rather upsetby heavy arrivals. Since this time last week shipments have- arrived by the Aotea, Kaco, Endeavour, Albatross. Mangapapa, and Energy, bringing over 2000 sacks, and the- "Waiotahi is now on the way. This large quantity caused the market, to drop to ' 3s 6d on the wharf, at which wholesale parcels havo been placed, and the lower price has induced a little shipping to the South. .Stocks arc now clearer, and the market may be regarded as firm at the present quotation, but it- must be remembered that the local consumption is considerably reduced. At this time of the year wheat is always preferred if it can bo obtained on favourable terms, and the high price of maize has thrown still more demand on wheat. •The wheat market is very firm at late quotations, and as the fowl wheat- arriving is turning out in good condition there is an eager demand. Present cost is 3s 6d c.i.f., or 5s 9d ex store. Oats show no change. The- market keeps firm, holders having a strong opinion of tho situation. .... ■ _v

Onions are in fall supply from Australia, and the market is easier, good samples being quoted at 9s upwards, while" it is not unlikely that the price will bo a little lower shortly", as heavier- supplies are expected, and buying is only done quietly on the band-to-mouth principle. Locally grown are coming on well, and with hot, weather will soon be ripening off. 'American potatoes are off the market until arrival of tho Sierra, now fully due with a large shipment. A good many of these will go South, and practically all are placed .to arrive. New potatoes are arriving in much better condition now, and good i samples command 2d. The position has decidedly improved as regards the growing "crop,-the weather conditions of the last ; lour weeks having been just as ; favourable /Bathe preceding two months- were unfavourable. Consequently blight is hardly in evidence now, and a good many growers are : expecting a full crop ,in good condition. ■ Guided by the experience of last year quite g» fair quantity of late potatoes have been ■ put in, and unless particularly dry weather : should come these ought to turn out well. .American'' seed has been largely used, and it will be interesting to see to what extent .the change will be for the benefit. Grain generally benefits by the seed being obtained from a different clime, and it is expected that potatoes will show tho same result in resisting blight as the American • seed oats 'have shown in resisting rust. •.'.-; Oats are looking very well, and it is hoped 'that rust 13 now a thing of the past. "With hot weather there will bo harvesting in a few days in some early areas, and a large quantity will be down before the end of the year, so that'chaff will then be more plentiful. Southern is 5s per ton higher this week, and will continue in demand for some time yet, as it will net be safe to use new local chaff at once, except mixed with old. In a short time*, . however, local will supply all the Auckland demand. Farmers • in Auckland have lost thousands of pounds during the last two or three years through rust compelling the importation of Southern chaff. ," '

Turnip seed is in heavy demand, also bonedust, superphosphate, and other manures.

1 Tea.: Calcutta advices to 13th ult. state 1 that quality was very ordinary, with the exception of a few Dooars and Assarns, and although some of the former were ragged -„-.. and stalky tho market remained firm. y: ■ There was .a. larger selection of common sorts than for some time, and may be quoted at id lower. All medium to fine teas showing good cup value 'have advanced ' ;■' somewhat. At tho sale of November 15, at '. . Colombo, 16,939 packages (1,348,6241b) were offered, making the 'aggregate-to date about 5,000,0001b more than for the corresponding • period of 1304. Commonest grades were in full supply, and these with medium brokens were consequently lower, and very irregular in price; 'Orange Pekoes and Pekoes are ' firm at previous rates. Farming's are still being bought by the Russians, who pay ex- - • treme prices fori them, and tin's almost prohibits purchasing for this market. We are also advised from Calcutta that castor oil continues in limited demand, but prices are firm, owing to continued scarcity of castor seed, " .
