NEW CONVENT SCHOOL AT WHANGAREI.
[BY TELEGRAPH, —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Whangarei, Monday. The Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland laid the foundation-stone of the new convent school at Whangarei on Sunday afternoon. There was a large number of people present. Addresses were given by the Rev. Father Smiers, of Whangarei, the Bishop, the Mayor of Whangarei (Mr. Harry Weaver), Mr. Mander, M.H.R., and Mr. J. D. McKenzie (member of the Auckland Board of Education). A number of children were christened and adults confirmed at St. Xavier'e Church by the Bishop in the afternoon.
