AUCKLAND RACING CLUB'S SPRING

MEETING. The heavy rains that fell throughout last v oplc had the effect of creating some further anxiety as to the possibility of the A.R.C. being able to hold the spring meeting at Lllerslie, in the face of the course having been leturfed anil regraded over three furlongs. An inspection of the ground shows that it is becoming solidified, even in the face of somewhat severe conditions, and in the event of the weather proving fine next week the chairman, the Hon. E. Miichelson, is hopeful of the A.R.C. being able to hold the meeting on their- own course.

"" THE NEW ZEALAND CUP.

Advices to hand from Canterbury show that Mr. Stead is in tho somewhat unique position of supplying three equal favourites for tho big handicaphis representatives, Nightfall, Noctuiform, and Sungod being all quoted at six to one. This is a more liberal scale of odds than is on offer in Auckland about the Yaldhurst trio, which, of course, is only to be expected, as there is a larger volume of betting in the South. Until Mr. Stead intentions arc (known it is doubtful if a great deal of life will he thrown into the speculation on the New Zealand Cup.
