A WHALING ACCIDENT.
COW WHALE SMASHES A BOAT.

Norfolk Island, October 24. A whaling accident occurred at Norfolk Island recently, off tho Cascade. On© of No. 1 Company's boats got fast to a cow whale and her calf, and while the cow was being landed she got under the boat, and striking with her flukes, hit it, staving in the whole of the starboard side, and hurting the boat-header, Allen Buffett, badly. He was picked up by his' mates, unconscious. The mate's boat was close at hand, and rescued the crew, who were unhurt. Part of the gear was saved, but the boat, oars, and sail, had to be abandoned. The boatheader, who was nearly drowned, had a severe shock, but the doctor did not think he was seriously .hurt.
