POLICE COURT NEWS.
VICTIMISING BOARDINGHOUSEKEEPERS. Richard Oummixs was charged before justices of the peace yesterday with being a rogue and vagabond. Sub-Inspector Black said the accused had for some time past been victimising boardinghouse-keepers. He> would go to a boardinghouse and represent himself as a Government clerk. He would stop at the place until pressed for payment, and then clear out. One, boardinghousekeeper, in evidence, stated that the accused had a month's free board from, her, he having said that lie got paid by the "month, and would consequently pay his board monthly. After hearing the evidence of three boardinghouse-keepers, and Constable Boag, the Bench decided to send Cummins to Mount Eden for three months. DRUNKENNESS. Fanny Murray, alias Sloan, and John* Hyams, alias Dowd, both previous offenders, were, fined 10s and costs. Three first-of-fenders were discharged on paying cab hire. MISCELLANEOUS. Jack Williams pleaded guilty to being found after midnight on the premises of J. 11. M, Carpenter without lawful excuse. Ho explained that ho had only gone there to sleep. As it was his first offence, ho .was convicted and discharged. Edward Doolan, a young man, pleaded guilty to having stolen on the 4th inst. five dozen sacks, tho property of Edward Wilson. Doolan had been previously employed by Wilson. He was fined £3 and costs,- in default seven days' imprisonment. Captain E. Steinback was fined 10s and costs for failing to register his dog. Daniel Town Send was charged with haying passed a cyclist, who was going in the same direction, on the wrong side. Mr. Hackett, instructed by Mr. Parr, appeared for the defendant, and Mr. T. C. Turner, traffic inspector, prosecuted. After hearing evidence, a fine of 5s and costs was inflicted. A Ponsonby resident, Emily Patience Dosseter, was fined 10* and costs for leaving a quantity of wood in Ponsonby Road after sunset without sufficient light. George Robinson was fined 5s and costs for driving a vehicle around the, corner of Symonds-streefc and Karangahnpe Road at other than a walking pace. Robert Shepherd, for riding a bicycle on the footpath in* Albert Road, was fined 5s and costs. Walter Powell, for failing to keep a vehicle as near as practicable to the left-hand side of Karangaliape Road, was fined 10s and' costs. T'or a similar offence in Queenstreet John Berry was convicted and discharged. Ann Tils ley was charged with being found 011 the licensed premises of the Newmarket and Carlton Club Hotels during the cur- j rency of a prohibition order. On the first charge she was fined 10s and costs, and 011 the second she was convicted and dis-. charged. Thomas Henry .Tones was charged with procuring liquor from .lie licensed premises of the Star Hotel during the currency of a prohibition order, and, further, with being found on the premises during the currency of a prohibition order. The defendant pleaded guilty to lx>th charges. On the first- be was fined £1 ami costs, in default seven days' imprisonment, and oil the second he was fined 10s and costs, in default- seven days. j
