On Thursday night Misses Matthews and I McHarg entertained the parents and friends - of the mmils of the Dcvonnort Girls' College at the Foresters' Hall, Dovonport, which was tastefully decorated with arum lilies, greenery and Chinese lanterns. The programme, provided by the pupils was much appreciated. A feature of the entertainment was the musical drill, oven the youngest child keening perfect lime, showing (lint great, pains had been taken by .Miss Matthews. The instrumental and elocutionary items reflected most creditably on Mi-s Mellarg's careful training. An old English minuet was danced by six of the pupils in appropriate costume. This was greatly enjoyed, and received a welldeserved encore. The pupils looked neat and graceful in the uniform costume of navy kilted skirts and white blouses, relieved with the college colours of green and gold. A largely-attended parish tea was held in St. Sepulchre's schoolroom lust evening. At the after meeting the vicar of the parish ((he R<>v. George Carver) prodded, and, in a short address, mentioned that yesterday was the fortieth annivrsarv of St. Sepulchre's Church. The Rev. T. Evershed, of North Shore, also delivered an address. The Misses Clark, Alexander, and Pitta (pupils of Mrs. Maleom'on 'Moult) danced a Japanese dance. The brass Quartet'c. consisting of Messrs. Craig, White. Whittle, and Griffin, contributed a number of it»ms] and Messrs. .Astloy and George Warren contributed recitation?. The second fifteen of the Newton District Football Club held a verj enjoyable smoke concert at the Eden Terrace Fire Brigade Hall last night to celebrate their win in"the first junior championship for 1.905. '{'lie president (Mr. IT. Conquer) presided. Out of nine matches played, eight were won and one lost, with 96 points for and 12 against them. Several toasts were honoured. The contributors to the musical programme were: Messrs. L. and E. Farrant, C. Webb, Chevis, Gibson and W. and J. Heath. During the evening the caps won in the championship were presented. Bishop Lenihan will preach at St. Patrick's Cathedral to-morrow evening. After the sermon Mi. Percy Denton will render the offertory solo, "Tho Dawn of the Redemption."
