EFFORTS TO GET SAILORS. By Telegraph Press Association.— (Received August 25, 9.40 p.m.) London, August 25. The British Consul at Bremerhaven reports that Germany spends £20,000 a year to encourage deepsea fishing, with the secondary object of obtaining sailors for the navy. It is necessary for Germany to make special efforts to obtain sailors, as her total seafaring population is only about 80,000, of whom 48,000 are in the merchant service.
