JjSEraius, ex-banker, of Temuka, a candidate for the Geraldino seat in the' Opposition, interest, addressed his first meet-' ing of electors at Temuka last evening. He had a large meeting, the Volunteer Hall' being filled to overflowing, and was accorded an appreciative hearing. He announced himself as a straight-out Oppositionist. ' He advocated the reduction of Customs dutieson the necessaries of life, giving the option of freehold to lease in perpetuity settlers: at the original values, election to the Upper House on a basis of one representative to every two electorates, completion of trunk railways at an expenditure of half-a-million a year. He was opposed to the referendum and Bible in schools, would remove disqualifications against thrift in regard l to old' age pensions, repeal the Public Revenues Act, and generally endeavour to , secure clean administration. He received a hearty vote of thanks, asking that any further ex- \ pression of confidence should be reserved for the polling booth. 5 Christchukch, Friday. Mr. Benjamin Eaynee is announced as anIndependent Liberal candidate for Avon. , The ballot for selection of a Liberal can« didate for Waitemata took place last evening, under the supervision of the returning' .officer for the federation (Mr. W. U. Timewell, president of the Devonpert branch). Ballot papers from Devonjaort, Wade, Birkenhead, Birkdale, and Albany branches and sub-branches were counted. The result was the selection of Mr. Cecil Clin-' kard. Dr. H. D. Bamford will address the electors of Auckland East, in St. An-: drews' Hall, Lower Symonds-street, next Friday evening, at eight o'clock.
