AQUATICS.

The annual football matclj, Otalmliu Sailing Club v. Ponsonby Cruising Club, will be played at Otahuhu on Saturday, August 12. The following team will represent Otahuhu:—J. Hedge, J. Holtham, J. Taylor, A. Waddell, C. Carson, T. Hair, J. W. Andrew, W. Brown, H. Fearnley, J. Miller, E. Caddigan, W. Sheppard, \V. Todd, N. Todd, A. Feamley. The annual meeting of the Auckland Rowing Club will be held in the Federal Hall, Wcllesley-street, on Wednesday evening next. The yacht Bowi, owned by Mr. E. Feltham, of Devonport, has been placed on Mr. Le Houquot's slip to have the centreboard taken out and a lead keel placed in its stead.

Tho sculling race for the championship 1 of the world was rowed on the Parramatta River, Sydney, on Saturday last between James Stanbury and George Towns, and resulted in a win • for the former, who led from start to finish, winning by two lengths. Both oarsmen are natives of New South Wales. *Stalibury has been approached to row the next champion race in Canada. Mr. C. Bailey, jun., has the 40-foot oil launch for a gentleman at Picton well in hand, and she should be in the water within a fortnight. The 30-foot oil launch for Captain J. McKenzie, of Auckland, is also well forward, and another 30-foot oil launch has just been laid lown. The question of the election of officers for the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron at the annual meeting to be held in September next is at present engaging the attention of members of the club. It appears a somewhat difficult task to get gentlemen who possess the requisite qualifications to come forward and take that interest in matters relating to the squadron which they should do; and it appears very likely, unless they wake up to the responsibilities of the position, that matters will be allowed to so drift that the club will suffer, both numerically and financially. It is to be earnestly hoped for the welfare of the club that a determined effort will be made to bring forward, tho strongest members available for the various offices for tile ensuing season. Mr. 0. 'P. Murdoch, the present commodore, has for some years past " borne the heat and burden of the day," and to his untiring efforts the present fine position of the club is due, for he has never stinted cither time or labour in pushing its interests forward.

Dingey racing is becoming increasingly popular in Wellington (says tho New Zealand Times), and is being fostered by the Port Nicholson Yacht Club. In addition to tho seven racing dingeys that competed last year, three more are being built, and will bo ready by the beginning of tho season. A smart-looking little craft has been built by Messrs. Bailey and Lowe, of Auckland, for Messrs. J. and 0. Scott, of Wellington. The boat, which arrived from Auckland a few days ago, measures 9ft ll£in over all, with a sft 6in beam. : Lysx.
