Mr. Death delivered a policy statement. He announced that, the Ministry had decided to adhere to the practical policy sanctioned by the country at last general election, and already submitted to the House. This included die taking over of the debts of the States; Federal old age pensions; encouragement of rural occupations, in particular, by means of preferential trades; bounties for new products, ami more speedy and cheaper transport of products; attraction of population ; the appointment of a High Commissioner; a Navigation and Shipping Bill; an Iron Bonus Bill; and tlie ocean mail, contracts question. The Budget, he said, is to be framed on the lines outlined in 1904. The Government proposes to continue the sugar bounty for a further period. The question of defence, in view of recent developments, is to receive special attention.
