ATHLETIC NOTES.

FOOTBALL. BOMBAY V. WAIROA. The return match, Bombay v. Wairoa, was played at Bombay in Mr. Rutherford's paddock on Saturday. The match was a very close one. Bombay was reinforced by 11. and E. Piggott. In -the first spell play centred in the visitors' 25 nearly the whole time. Within the first 15 minutes Wairoa had to force four or five times. Fahey then got the ball and scored the first try for Bom-bay,-J. Fitness registering the major points. Wairoa got on a splendid rush aiid carried play into the local 25, and Alexander got over at the corner, scoring for Wairoa. No goal resulted, though it was a splendid kick from a difficult anglo, the ball striking the post. In the second spell J. Fitness kicked a goal from a penalty kick, and McOlennan scored a try for Wairoa, the game thus ending in favour of Bombay by 8 points to 6. A football match was played' at ,Paeroa on Saturday between the representative teams of Waikino and Paeroa. The game was well contested, and was won by Paeroa by nine points to three. For the winners Sherson obtained two tries and Rickitt one, while Shaw scored a try for Waikino. None of the tries were converted. The Paeroa backs were far superior to their opponents, and their_ passing was at times splendid.
