DISTRICT CRICKET.

THE CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. [BY TELEGRAPH CORRESPONDENT.]

Ohristchurch, Monday. Apparently it would assist Ohristchurch cricketers to come to a decision about district cricket if some prominent Auckland cricketers who ~ are' known in Ohristchurch cricket circles would give their views.' At present the most contradictory reports are being used as arguments for and against the proposal of the Canterbury Cricket Association to inaugurate a> scheme of district cricket here. The proposal was before the Midland and the United Clubs on Saturday night, and was rejected by the former and agreed to .by the latter, though this decision is subject to review at a later meeting. At the Midland meeting one speaker said the association was apparently going on the supposed success of the scheme in New South Wales, South Australia, and Auckland. He thought the towns in New Zealand were too small. To talk of Auckland was beside the point. Cricket had not improved there since the district scheme was adopted. Another speaker, however, asserted that it had aroused wonderful public enthusiasm in Auckland.
