' The Mersey Docks Board proposes to obtain power to expend £4,000,000 on deepening and otherwise improving the river for shipping and. to rendering the docks capable of accommodating ships 1000 feet long.
The tonnage of the port of liverpoor has increased by 400,000 tons m a year. _
The Liverpool Channel in the Mersey is 16 miles long and one mil© to three miles wide. There is a magnificent system of docks several milea long, and giving Similes of quay epaoe and 551- acres of water space (including Birkenhead). .
