AUCKLAND UNIVERSITY COLLEGE.

STATEMENT BY THE PREMIER.

[by ll.— SPECIAL correspondent.]

Wellington, Monday. The condition of the Auckland University College buildings was referred to by the Premier to-day, in replying to a Wellington deputation which asked for an 'additional grant from the Government of £5000 or £6000 for the purpose of completing the equipment of the Victoria College. Mr. Seddon, in stating that the request would be placed before Cabinet, with a view to provision being made for the work in the forthcoming Estimates, pointed out that the requirements of the other, colleges would have to be also considered. "The buildings at Auckland," he said, " are in. a very dilapidated and unsuitable condition at the present time. In fact, I may go further, and say that they are insanitary." He said that a vote would be asked for the Auckland College, and that what was done for one of the "two rival cities" would naturally be looked for by the other.' '
