NO. 8 GAUMSON ARTILLERY SHOOTING MATCH. ON Saturday afternoon thf. members of lite No. 8 Company New Zealand Garrison Artillery, fired the first match for a cup presented by Mr. G. W. Gunsou (an honorary member of the corp), on the Penrose rifle range. The conditions were 10 shots with one sisditer at 600 yds and 700 yds. At 600 yds the light was good, and some fail- scores were made, but during the tiring at 700 yds a peculiar fading light settled on the targets and made shooting very difficult. Lieutenant .T. Euan tired, but not as a competitor. The following are the principal scores; —

AKARAXA RIFLE CLUB MATCH. The members of the Akarana Rifle Club fired the sixth championship match of the season. on their range at Penrose, on Saturday afternoon. There was a good attendance, and some good, scores were registered, notwithstanding the tricky wind prevailing:. Mr. \\. ('-ox. for the third time in succession, put on the highest score of the day. The best range -cores were the 42 of Mr. \V. Cox at Mvila'. and the 46 of Mr. J. McCarthy at 7CGyds\ The scores of the "B" class members also counted for Mr. Maughan's cup. lor which Mr. S. Howe's score of 77 was the best returned. The principal scores are as under: — CHAMPIONSHIP SHIELD AND MEDAL.

VICTORIA RIFLES' SHOOTING CONTEST. The Victoria Hides completed the final competition for Mrs. Skinners trophy at Penrose on Saturday afternoon. Private Carlben, alter a close contest with Lieutenant (.'ox, proved the winner. A teams' match of nine men a-.-ide. chosen by Captain Skinner and Lieutenant Cox. was fired in conjunction with the trophy. Captain Skinner's team winning by the small margin of two points—4o9 to 407. Captain Skinner (56). Private Carlson (54). Private S. Rowe 531, and Private McCarthy (50) were the leading scorers for Captain Skinner's team, and Lieutenant Cox (59). Colour-Sergeant Aylett. (54), Private Kerr (50), and Private Anderson (50) were the principal scorers for Lieutenant Cox's team. The conditions for Mrs. Skinner's trophy were 10 shots at 600 yds and 10 at. 700 yds. and for the teams' match seven shots at 600 yds and seven at 700 yds, with 0110 sighter, not to count.
