LAWN TENNIS.
THE DAVIS CUP MATCHES.
The secretary of the Australasian Association has received from the All England Association particulars of the draw and dates of international matches for the Davis cup, for which Australasia is competing for the first time. The challenging nations "are Australasia, Austria, Belgium, France, and United States of America, who play off for the right to meet British Isles—the holders of the cup—in the challenge round. The two preliminary rounds will be played at Queen's Club ground on July 8. 10, 11, 13. 14 and 15. The third round will be played at Wimbledon on July 17. 18, and 19, and the challenge round will also he played at Wimbledon on July 21, 22, and 24. In the draw for right to challenge, America meets Belgium in the first round. Ir the second round France meets the winners of this match and Australasia meets Austria. The winners of the second round then piny oft' at Wimbledon on the above dates. Austria was a challenging nation last.year, but gave their opponents a walk over. America will probably beat both Belgium and France, and Australasia should have no difficulty in settling the pretensions of Austria. The Americans will have a tough task to get past the Australasians, and an English authority who has seen them play thinks the latter will just about win.
