HOCKEY.
Hockey will soon be 111 full swing again. I lie annual general meeting of the association will take pace next Thursday or Friday next, and all clubs should have 'heir meet nigs over before then to enable the new delegates to attend. Some of the clubs are already getting to practice, and the United and College Rifles teams will be hard at it on the polo ground this afternoon. There is a probability that ihe association will lease the polo ground during the season with the exception of the two grounds used by the ladies' clubs. Mr. W right, of the Referees' Association, who returned recently from a visit to Christchurch, says there is every probability <>f the North v. South Island match being played in Auckland this season. The matter only requires a little working up by the local association. It is likely that the Wellington and Taranaki associations will send teams to Auckland this year. Auckland won both senior and junior championships last year, but were run very close in several of the matches, and I should not be surprised to see College Rifles come out top this year. The second annual meeting of the United Hockey Club was held in the Amateur Sports Club room on Wednesday last, ..ir. llraham Reed, club cantain, in the chair. Th ere was a good attendance of members. The secretary and treasurer's reports were read, showing that although the club bad not- succeeded in winning the championship last year, the team had gone very close to it. only two points separating them from Auckland. The finances of the club were shown to be in a satisfactory condition, there being a credit balance of £5 6s lid. The election of officers resulted as under: — President. Mr. G. Court: vice-presidents, Messrs. C. Hanson. H. Roes George, ,1. Stuart Rcid, John Hall, G. V. Pierce, and the Rev. Beatty; club captain, Mr. S. Shirriffs: hon. secretary, Mr. E. C. Solwyn Hamlin; hon. treasurer. Mr. Robinson; committee. Messrs. R. W. Barry, W. A. Brown, W. Hamlin, and A. Hussey; hon. auditor, Mr. M. St. Paul (re-elected): Selection Committee. the club captain, Messrs. W. A. Brown and V. Marsden.
