WAIHI BOROUGH COUNCIL.

WAIHI, Friday. AT the meeting of the aiixi Borough Council last night a letter was received from Dr. Frengley, district health officer, stating that he had inspected seven dwellings in. Featonstreet, and that in their present condition they were unfit for human habitation. Jie recommended that the owner bo advised to make the necessary, structural alterations or additions, and stated that in the event of 110 deiinito reply being received within two months it was his (Dr. Frengley's) intention to issue certificates requiring the houses to he pulled down. The Council decided to carry out these instructions. The subject of waterworks extension tfas mentioned, Mr. Donaldson recommending that the Government be asked for a further loan of £5000 to complete the works. He said that if _ the loan could be obtained on the same terms as the £15,000 already borrowed they could pay it back in 26 'years. It was decided that a special meeting be held on Holiday night to further consider the matter. The engineer reported that he had visited Wellington and arranged satisfactorily with tile Agricultural Department as to the design of building for the Waihi abattoirs. He had also obtained a promise from the Department that suitable extension would be given to the licenses of the focal butchers provided this Council proceeded with the abattoirs. He also inquired as to the procedure in connection with the preparation of a local Bill providing for the acquiring of the Beach Road, and obtained all necessary information. The engineer was instructed to go on with the plans of tho abattoir. The Mayor and Messrs. Brown, Donaldson, and Henderson were appointed to represent the Council on the hospital board of trustees. The Mayor and Messrs. McMillan, Slevin. and Donaldson were appointed to constitute the Fire Council, and the Mayor and Messrs. Donaldson and McCarthney were appointed to represent the Council at the School of Mines. Messrs. Donaldson. Slevin. and McMillan were authorised to sign cheques.
