THE BROAD CHURCH MANIFESTO. A COUNTER DECLARATION. By Telegraph.— AssociationCopyrig'a;. ' London, April 27. Tee Bible Students' Union has issued a manifesto directly counter to the manifesto recently issued by 100 clergymen of the Church of England on the higher criticism of the Bible, •with special reference to the incarnation and the Virgin Birth. This counter manifesto has been issued at the instance of the Bishop of Durham and other leading churchmen. AUSTRALIAN CLERGY AND THE MANIFESTO. Sydney, April 28. In connection with the manifesto issued by 100 of the Anglican clergy regarding the Higher Criticism of tlr Bible, copies of the manifesto were circulated throughout the Commonwealth in February. The co-operation of the 1 .cat clergy was sought in. the matter. It is understood that several of the clergy in the Sydney diocese signed and returned the document, and that others ignored it, while others intend seeking the advice of the higher dignitaries of the Church before acting. Although the manifesto was not sent to any bishop, one Queensland, prelate advised his clergy not to sign. A number of the leading clergy who have been interviewed say they are of opinion that the Bible has nothing to fear fronr the Higher Criticism.
