SOUTH AUCKLAND BOWLING ASSOCIATION. PENNANT AVON BY TE AIiOHA CLUB. • lit; first annual tournament of the .South Auckland Bowling Association, was played 011 the 'le A rob a green, beginning on Easter Monday. The weather,* although threatening, did not, beyond a live minutes' shower oil Tuesday, interfere with the play. Heavy rain had fallen before Easter, and the rinks were very heavy. Five clubs were represented, and 10 rinks were entered. Under the rules of the association one rink forms a team, and a club mav enter any number of rinks. No. 2Te Aroha drew a. bve, and No. 1 Te Aroha beat Thames by 3 to 1. Then after a most, exciting finish, the scores read three all on the third bead, Te Arolia No'. 2 defeated No. 1 Te Aroha in four heads by 5 to 3, thus winning the section. No. 1 Te Aroha .had scored thre. points on tho first two heads, and- were lying shot. There was a bare possibility of Wallace (skip) punching out the shot and lying three. It', however, Power (skip) played his bowls among the opposition the chance was gone. I'owei failed, and Wallace succeeded with a beauty, equalising; the scores. In the deciding head Bobson (lead) drew a shot immediately behind tho jack, which, in the waniinr light none of the „No. 1 team could dislodge. , Section play was completed: on Tuesday, and on Wednesday morning Te Aroha No. 3 brought off a big surprise by defeating-No. 2 To' Arolia by the substantial majority "of 23 to 13. The Te Arolia Club wins 'the association pennant for 1905, and gold medals are awarded to the winning team—J. li. .Stanley, F.'C. Pavitt, J. White, and F. l'avitt (skip). Good form was shown toy the Thames representatives, and on the play there was nothing; to choose between them and the Te Arolia men. A special word of praise is due to the Paeroa and Karangaliakc Clubs, which, although only i;i their first season, courageously .entered two and three rinks respectively. Tile Hamilton Club had very toad luck. A strong team was selected, some of the ) lumbers of which, at he last moment, iound it impossible to get the necessary leave of absence from business. Next year the association will be reinforced by the adhesion of the Cambridge and Te Awamutu clubs. A green is toeing prepared at Waihi, and 110 doubt the Wjtihi Club will also affiliate.

'file visiting bowlers were the guests ot the Arolia Bowling Club, at a smoke concert, on Monday evening, when a most enjoyable time was spent. The local club, with the kind assistance of Messrs'. Homers, Pilling, and Shaw, provided refreshments during the course of the-play. The tournament was excellently managed 'by tie? Match Committee, Messrs.
