OPERA HOUSE.

"A Sailor's Sweetheart'' at the Opera House continues to attract good attendances. The piece will be repeated this evening-. Tomorrow " Through the Divorce Court*' will be staged for the first time in Auckland. The play is a very powerful one of its kind and is described as abounding in most sensational incidents.

WILLIAMSON'S OPERA COMPANY. '"The Pirates of Penzance" was performed for the last time at His Majesty'. Theatre last evening-, when the hotne was crowded. To-night the whimsical fairsopera, " lolanthe, or the Pec- and di"a Peri," will replace the "Pirates." *"] O . lanthe" was one of the most successful of the operas ployed in the revivals in Sydney. Th» whole of the magnificent costiimes have been renewed by Mr. William-' son, and with th© military band and electrical effect: (lie tout ensemble is more than usually complete. Miss Dolly Castii'j has probably tho*best- part in her repertoita in Phyllis, the Arcadian shepherdess, which is peculiarly well suited to her. Mr. Howard Vernon resumes his original part of the Lord Chaiicello.*, whilst Miss C'elia Ul'iloni as the Fairy Queer is happily placed. Miss Yinia de Loitte in the title role made a success in this part in Sydney, and the two noble lords, Tolloller and Mountararatv are in the capable hands of Mr. C. Ken'i. i ugh am and Mr. Frank Wilson, who have' respectively played these parrs under the eye of the composer and author. Mr. Baliton hap a splendid role in Stephen, and Mr. Fitts a most congenial one as Private Willis of the Grenadier Guards. Misses Aggie Thome, Ruby Arnfield, and Vera Battel complete a very heavy cast. The ■ box plan is now open at Wildman' and Arev's. and the piece will be played ' for. > three nights only.

PROGRESSIVE EUCHRE. Til the Federal Ilall last evening a most successful progressiva euchre party was held in aid of St. Patrick's building fund. A., large mini her of people sat down to the*' euchre tables. Dancing,* was indulged in from ten to twelve p.m. Refreshments were provided by the crtsiiinitfce, which consisted of the Misses Mel 1 hone, Wrist,' Thome, and Fisher, Mesdames • Foley, Kearns, Lundigun, and Tobin. Mrs. Leonardo acted as secretary. ' OXEHUNGA MUSICAL SOCIETY. There was a good attendance at tha Foresters' Hall, Onelmnga, last evening, when the Musical Society gave their first entertainment o;" the season. The programme, a miscellaneous one, consisted of instrumental and vocal items, and was much appreciated. It was as follows-—Se-lection, "Mariiana," orchestra: part song, " Carnorale," chorus; song. '"The Message," Mr. Robertson; flute solo, " Friere,'* Mr. G. E. Poore; song. "Land of Yester. day," Miss Madolino Knight; violin solo, Herr H. Kugcl; song (a) " Slumber, Dear Maid," (b) "Still as the Night," Misst , Blanche Bradney; overture, "Go'defrci de ' : t Bouillon," orchestra; song, "Farewell to ■( Summer," Miss Madeline Knight; cornet solo, Mr. P. Williams ; song, " Sunshine of % Love," Miss Blanche Bradney; duo. forW" flute and horn, Serenade," Messrs. Pooro and Dobbie;- song, "Beauty's Eyes,", Mr. % Robertson: part song, "The Wedding Morn," chorus. Herr H. En eel acted as ,V leader of the Miss Mulkere oflt- ; ciated as accompanist, and Mr. E. J. Gatland as conductor. Taken on the whole the ' society is to be complimented upon the ex- ''•* cellent ' programme provided, and the attendance of members and the -public showed that there is sufficient' enthusiasm to keen the society in existence, and'as strong, as in former seasons.
