[«T TELEGRAPH. — PRESS ASSOCIATION. J Gisborne, Thursday. At the annual meeting of the Acclimatisation Society to-day the chairman said it was very gratifying to find that the effortsto introduce trout into the streams of the district were meeting with success. Shags were very plentiful, and inducements should bo offered to keep the pest down. At present shags were often destroyed by means of the telephone, one settler giving notice to the next that, the bird was coming along, and it was secured in this way. Regarding the schedule of birds proposed to be protected, the society resolved to ask the Government, not to protect the blight bird (white eye).
