TRAINING OF NURSES.

THE PREMIER'S VIEWS.

[by telegraph.— correspondent.]

Waihi, Friday. In the course of his address at the Waihi Liberal Association's social on Thursday evening Air. Seddon referred to the need there was for good nursing homes in various parts of the colony, so that young women could be trained for nursing in private homes, and thus well-qualified and trained nurses could be within the reach of all in the colony, irrespective of wealth or position. Home nursing was often of a very inferior charactor, and serious results occurred in consequence. His scheme was, say, in Waihi, to have five or six girls who would be taught nursing at the hospital at the expense of the colony, and when nurses were required outside the doctor would be able to take out for duty the most qualified. When ho asked Parliament for £3000 not one in the. House objected, and so training institutions were to be started, and efficient nursing thus placed within the roach of all. The Creator intended that all should bo happy in this life, but the selfishness of man had made life different to what it should have been, and he afiked who could bo happy when his neighbour was in want? These nursing homos would tend largely to decrease suffering. Tho social was « great success, and reflected great credit upon tho committee of ladies who carried out the arrangements. The committee was as follows:Meedamee Gilinour, Darby, Waugh, Henderson, Hartley, Foster, Scott, Bengc, .Toll, Green, Misses Gilmour, Noakcs, McArthur, Darby (2), Scott, Hartley, Henderson, and Graham.
