SHOOTING COMPETITION AT HAMILTON.

Hamilton', Thursday. o>i Wednesday there was a largo gathering at tho Hamilton range, when tho members of "A" Squadron fired for tho champion belt. Tho weather was favourable. An excellent string band was 011 the ground, and played at intervals. The champion competition, 10 shots each at 500 and 600 yards, resulted as follows:—Private Litchfield, 35, 39—74; Sergt. Melville, 40, 34—74 ; Private Alexander, 36, 37— Private Pease, 35, 34— ; Corporal Molville, 42, 27—69; Private Downey, 43, 24—; Private Panton, 34, 27—61. The Non-commissioned Officers and Men's Handicap, 500 and 600 yards, 10 shots at each range, resulted as follows:—Corporal Melville, 42, 27 (handicap 10) —79; Private Litchfield, 35, 39 (scr.) —74; Sergt. Melville, 40, 34 (scr.) —74; Private Alexander, 36, 37 (scr.) — 73; Privato Loveday, 37, 36 (scr.) —73; Private Downey, 43, 24 (3)—70; Private Panton, 34, 27 (3)64. The second prize went to Private Litchfield, as lie had the highest score at the long range. Private Alexander still leads for tho champion belt by five points, followed by Sergt. Melville. There were also two events for ladies, for which prizes wero given. Ladies pea rifle competition, 25yds, ono inch bull's-eye, possible 25: Miss Hilda Graham, 17; Miss Ransted, 17; Miss Wylie, 14. Ladies' Lee-En-field, 200 yds, five shots: Miss E. Loveday, 21; Miss I. J. Rayncr, 19.
