DEATH OF AN OLD COLONIST.
[UY TEE EG r a 11. — OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wancanui, Monday. Mr. Charles Gordon, 011,0 of the best known livery stable-keepers iu the island, died suddenly on Sunday afternoon, aged 70 years. The deceased was apparently in his usual health, and was chatting cheerily to a friend while hanging up some harness. As he was putting a- hor.se collar on a peg he I fell back and expired. The late Mr. Gorj don was a native of Newtonmore, Inverncss--1 shire, and arrived in the- colony some 40 years age. After remaining in Ola-go for • about six or seven years lie came to W'angaj niii and commenced business as .stableI keeper. With the- exception of a short ah- ' J sence he remained in Wanganni ever .since, i conducting Gordon's stables, which are ! known to every set-tier in the district. A 1 widow and family of two sous and four I | daughters are left to mourn their loss.
