A doctor sent by the Board of Health to Clarence River, has diagnosed a case there as one of true plague. INTER-STATE CRICKET. (Received January S, C.lB p.m.) Sydney, January 8. The weather was fine and the wicket good to-day for the cricket match, South Australia v. New South Wales. On the whole, the New South Wales batting was poor. Duff played crisp, sound cricket. The Waddy-Howell partnership added 88 runs. Howell, though safer than usual, made a number of uppish strokes. Waddy played a careful game. Travel's was in capital bowling form, and used his head well. Excepting Hill, who was batting for an hour, and Pellew, the visitors in their second essay could make no headway against Cotter's deliveries. New South Wales in their first innings made 299, of which Huff had 80, Waddy 57, Howell 62, and Carter 22. Cowan took one wicket for 17 runs; Travers, six for 102; Reedman, three for 79. South Australia in their second innings lost six wickets for 107, Hill scoring 41 and Pellew (not out) 24. Cotter has the whole six wickets to his credit, at a cost of 47 runs. South Australia in their first innings made 281. TECHNICAL EDUCATION. Sydney, January 7. The Education Commissioners have issued an interim report on commercial and technical education. It deals with systems in vogue on the Continent and elsewhere, but, in view of a fuller report, makes no definite recommendations. SYDNEY'S SHIPPING. Sydney, January 7. The shipping master reports that in 1904 foreign-going and intercolonial vessels with a tonnage of 5,427,000, arrived in Sydney last year.'
