MOTORS AND MOTORING.
A rather remarkable run was performed by Drs. McDowell and Purchas on Saturday last. Leaving town at six minutes to two p.m., they drove their cars to Mercer and back—a distance of 80 miles. With the exception of one or two adjustments to the new Darracq, it was practically a non-stop run. Mr H. B. James, the acting-secretary of the Automobile Olub of Victoria, has received a communication from the manager of Barney Oldfield, the crack racing motorist of America, in reference to the American crack making a racing visit to Australia at an early date. Oldfield has somo wonderful records to his credit, mostly established on mile circular cinder tracks, the best being a mile in 5* 4-55.; five miles, 4m. 445.: 10 miles, in 9m. 32 l-ss. ; and 15 miles in 14m. 21s.
