[BT TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION;] TiUAßtr, Wednesday. A case in which two- youug men, McCutcheon and Little, were charged with halving obtained money by menace from Davidson, a bookmaker, at the Timaru races, was ventilated in Court to-day. The charge was dismissed, the magistrate holding that what had taken place was merely a business ■squabble. Davidson's allegation was that McOutcheon had made him pay 22s to Little on a horse which the latter did not back. Woodvillb. Wednesday A young man named Underbill, a relieving cadet at the local railway station, has been arrested on a charge of theft of #5 from the Postmaster-General. I Wellington, Wednesday. At the Supreme Court this morning, Alfred Joseph Batohelor, with numerous aliases, was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment fcr forgery at Blenheim. Gisbohne, Wednesday. The Supreme Court concluded to-day. A prohibition order having been granted by the magistrate against an old man who employed counsel to oppose the application, an appeal was made to Judge Edwards. His Honor granted a rule nisi on the motion to prevent the order being put into effect, and the order was suspended pending the hearing of argum-iut in Auckland. Recently an aged and blind Maori landed from the steamer at Awanui, and had all he possessed (£2) stolen by a sneak thief. Christcht/ech, Wednesday. A public meeting to-night decided to raise a fund for a memorial to the late Mr! J. G. L. Scott, headmaster of the East Christchurch school, and arrangements were made for the collection of subscriptions from all past pupils.
