LICENSING COMMITTEE MEETING.
[by TELEGRAPH,— OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Waihi, Wednesday. At the quarterly meeting of the Licensing Committee for this district, held at Tauranga, it was decided, on the motion of Mr. Ward, that in future copies of adverse reports be forwarded by the clerk of the Licensing Committee to the persons referred to in them. The Bench refused to give an opinion on the legality of private bars when a<sked by Sergeant Sbeehan, An application, made by Mr. Sharp on behalf of the Paeroa Brewery Company, for a wholesale license at Waihi, was granted. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr. Ward, seconded by Canon Jordan, "That in this and future cases applicants be asked for a written guarantee" us to- the use of the license only in a place to be specified therein." The mover pointed out that, though this would not be legally binding on the licensee, nevertheless if he" broke hie word to the committee, and dealt elsewhere, or refused to give such guarantee, the committee would have its remedy at the next annual meeting, when it could refuse to renew the license, and this he fox one would then certainly do.
