BOROUGH COUNCILS.

PARNELL. The ordinary • meeting of the Paj'tiell Borough Council, held last evening, was attended by the Mayor (Mr. J. Fitt) and Messrs. Potford, Woods, Basley, Beale, Thomas, Slator, Briggs, Fowler, and Foster. Cleveland Road: Mr. Slator moved, "That the resolution of the Council passed on March 28, re forming a footpath in Cleveland Road, be rescinded, and that by-law No. 11 be carried out in this and all other cases of the same nature." Mr. Beale seconded pro forma, and the motion, after some discussion, was lost, by nine votes to one. fit. George's Bay Road: Mr. Basley submitted plans prepared by the harbour engineer foi the proposed works on St. George's Bay Road, connecting it with the King's Drive, and asked the Council for their opinion as to which should ba adopted. The Council, in deciding in favour of one of them, passed a vote of thanks to Mr. Basley for his services on the Board on behalf of the borough. Hie Abattoir Question: On the Legal and Finance Committee's recommendation, it as decided to acknowledge receipt ot the City Council's letter with reference to the proposed abattoir at Otahuhu, and to inform, that body that the Parnell Borough Council had the matter under consideration. GREY LYNN. The Grey Lynn Borough Council met last evening, there being present tho Mayor (Mr. J. W. Shackelford), Messrs. J. Fart-ell, J. Carrie, W. Dirncry, A. A. Creamer, C. I. MeMaster, S. Thomas, W. W. Dumper,- and W. S. Smith. Williamson Avenue: A deputation of residents in Williamson Avenue waited on the Council and complained of the delay in the progress of tho formation contract in thatstreet. Messrs. B. Squire, Williamson, Manson, Brinsden, and Clark spoke of the inconvenience in wet. weather resulting from the muddy state of the road where the excavations had been made. It was resolved on the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Mr. Farrell, to instruct the engineer to give the contractors notice to complete the works forthwith, and failing compliance that the penalties be enforced. An Alleged Nuisance: A further discussion took place on the subject of the nuisance alleged to exist in connection with the blood and offal plant at the City Abattoirs. After several councillors had spoken a motion was passed, on the motion of the Mayor, expressing dissatisfaction with the plant as at present worked. A deputation, consisting of the Mayor and Messrs. Farrell, Dumper, Thomas, and Smith, was appointed to wait ori Dr. Frengley, district health officer, in connection with the matter. i Sackville-street: The question of malting some repairs in Saclcville-street was referred to the Streets Committee with power to act. Water Extension: Mr. H. M. Wilson, engineer, reported on the proposed extension of the water supply along Surrey Crescent to the Grey Lynn Park estate. The estimate of cost was £590. The report was referred to the Streets Committee. Maekelvie-street: Mr. H. M. Wilson, engineer, reported on the matter of forming a footpath in Mr.ckelvie-street, between Gramme; Road and the Great North Road. The matter was referred to the Streets Committee with power to invite tenders for the work required. Tenders: The following tenders were received for the construction of a culvert in 11 o-street:—Mavs and Gordon, £20) 2s (accepted): MoGoe and Co., £2ld; liftn--downe and Arnold, £235 Is; J. Larkim::.24u 16s 6d. The engineer's estimate was £220. NEWMARKET. The Newmarket Borough Council met last evening under the presidency of the Mayor (Mr. J. McColl), there being also present: Messrs. Holmes, W. Edgerley, F. Bennett, A. Sec combe. A Disputed Assessment: Tho Hohson Bay Drainage Board wrote, informing the Council that their contribution towards the maintenance of the Hohson Bay sewer for the year would be £106 17s 6d. The Council decided to reply that thoy considered the assessment an excessive one.

Water Consumption: The report- of the turncock showed that the consumption of water foi the last 14 days was 600,000 gallons. Foreman of Works: The resignation of Mr. James Her,dry, foreman of works, was received with regret, and Mr. Hendry was thanked for the services he had rendered the Council.

ONEIIUNGA. The fortnightly meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council was held last night, when there were present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr. D. A. Sutherland), Messrs. Colledgo, Hill. Stoupe, Rishworth, I'owe, Moody, Toio. McLeod. and Glanfield. Electric Tramways: A letter was received Irorr the Auckland Electric Aramways Company with tracing of four additional sidings for the Onohunga line. The letter was referred to the Council in committee. Order of Work: Mr. Stoupe moved, "That all works passed by the Council and not completed be entered up in a book for that purpose, and that all future works passed be similarly dealt with; that when the work is completed the same to be ruled off. and initialled by the foreman of works." The motion was carried. Loan : It was agreed to ask the National Bank for a further loan of £400, provided that interest is only paid on the actual amount borrowed. Borough Accounts Mr. Rowe moved, and it was agreed, "That Messrs. Stoupe and Moody be appointed a Special Committee to go into the borough accounts." Petition: A petition received at a previous meeting, asking for improvements to be made in Syrnonds-street, was dealt with, and, on the motion of Mr. Rowe, the work Tp9 ordered to be done in its turn.
