ENTERTAINMENTS.

OPERA HOUSE. "Monte Oristo" was again produced at the Opera House last evening by the Dampie; Dramatic Company, and met with a very cordial reception from a large audience. Mr. Alfred Dainpier gave a fine interpretation of the much-wronged and deeply-avenged Edmond Dantes, whilst Miss Lily Dampier was & charming Mercedes. The company acted well, and in tfnison. The piece, which is brightly ' mounted, ill bo repeated to-night, and will be succeeded tomorrow by "From Clue to Capture." The chief figure in this play is Kenneth Keith, investigator, a rival of Sherlock Holmes. ANDERSON DRAMATIC COMPANY. The second production of "In the Shadow of Night," by the Anderson Dramatic Company, was witnessed by a highly appreciative audience at His Majesty's Theatre last night. The thrillifij, situations and interesting story of the play, together with the admirable stage efteots (notably the remarkable fire scene), were productive of keen pleasure. The same piece will be repeated to-night and following few nights. MAORI ENTERTAINMENT. The Maori entertainment provided by a mini be 1 of Rotorua and Urewera Maoris at the City Hall last evening, attracted a good audience. The programme, winch included such items as poi dances, hakas, and musical drill, was keenly appreciated, and encores were therefore numerous. The vocal efforts of several members of the company also met with a cordial reception. ORGAN RECITAL. At the Unitarian Church, Possonby Road, last night, Mr. vv. T. Sharp gave a recital on the new organ, which attracted a crowded attendance. The organist played a diverse and interesting programme of numbers with much rnusicianly taste, his contributions including " Poccato" • (Dubois), " Chceur d'Oberon" (Weber). " Andantiuo" from " Rosamunde," and " Military March" (Schubert), excerpts from Mendelssohn's "Organ Sonata, No. 1," Hummel's "Polonaise." "Hymn of Nuns'' (Lefebure-Welv), " Turkish March" (Micfraelis). and Morandi's " Offertoire." Mr. Walter Whyte gave excellent renderings of the recitative and aria "If With All Your Hearts," from "Elijah," and "The Star of Bethlehem." Mr. T. Read, jun., rendered the violin solo "Ave Maria" (Gounod) expressively. Mr. E. B. Smith gave the air " Rock of Ages," and the choir submitted Burnabv's anthem, " O Taste and See," and Spinney's "I Was Glad When They Said Unto Me," besides singing hymns during the evening. The programme was greatly enjoyed. A collection was taken up during the interval in aid of the church improvement fund.
