CHARGE OF ATTEMPTED MURDER.
[BY TELEGRAPH. — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Woodvilxe, Saturday. The case against George England, Maharahara, settler, charged with attempting to murder his wife and one Thomas Nicholas, is now proceeding oefore Mr. James, S.M. The evidence so far goes to show that England had been drinking, and was always jealous of his wife when in liink, that he made certain accusations agains* her, and struck her. Nicholas interfered, then Fugland, it was alleged, got a gun. Mrs. England, Nicholas, and the children left the house. England is alleged to have fired three shots, but these did not strike anyone. Accused reserved his defence, and was committed for trial at Napier. Bail was refused.
