. a!'"';"'i.','.,'.'-..- ' ...» .--..,.■■ ■■■■-'■ "- '•'«'■ PUTS INTO AUCKLAND LEAKING. The iron barquentine St. Hilda, Captain E. A. Stenbeck, Bound from Tarraa to Sydney '■;. with a cargo of timber, put. into Auckland yesterday in distress. In his official report • to tie Collector of Customs, Captain Stenbeck reports: —" The barquentine St. Kilda left Tairua. on the 17th inst. for' Sydney, with alight north-east wind, after being de layed for a week through low tides. The ' next day, when off Cuvier Island, it began to blow hard, with thick weather, the wind hauling round northerly and increasing to a' heavy gale towards evening, when the ship was hove-to. Shortly afterwards a leak woe reported in the fore-peak. ' Upon inspection it was found that one of the beams was adrift ; from the angle iron on the port side, apparently having been so for some rears, and as the vessel rose and fell on the sea, the loose beam end would chafe against the ship's side, having in the course of time knocked a small hole, through which the water was pouring. On the 20tb inst., being again off the Cuvier, v . and the weather having moderated considerably, the crew refused to proceed on the. ?,'Toyage, and finding that her stock of cement ad been damaged, so that temporary repairs could not be effected at sea, a course was shaped for Auckland."
