BAKERS AND MILLERS PICNIC.
Tub annual picnic hold by the Auckland bakers and millers took place at Motutapu yesterday. Excellent weather was experienced for the event, and there was an attendance of some 500 people. Tho Devonport Ferry Company's boat Eagle was requisitioned, and made two trips to tho picnicking grounds during the day, returning to the Queen-street Wharf a little after seven o'clock. An interesting programme oi sports items was carried out, and tho juveniles were not overlooked, races, etc., for their benefit being provided. The greatest interest was centred in the tugof-war match, millers v. bakers, for which Mr. A. M. Myers presented a silver cup. The bakers proved their superiority in winning the first two, trials. Tha Auckland Garrison Band was in attendance and contributed towards the enjoyment of the outing. The arrangements in connection with the pionio were complete, thanks to the efforts of Mr. E. F. Noonan, secretary, and an energetic committee. The following are the results of the sports events: ■ Apprentices' Race: N. Walker 1, C. Lawson 2. Millers' carters: <T. Green ■1, Mulvahill 2, Cox 3. Allcomers: E. Edwards 1, Harper 2. Steeplechase: D. Daniels 1, Parkes 2. Keid's employees Craig 1, McFretcban 2. Married ladies: Mrs. Kirkpatrick 1, Mrs. Lee 2. Single ladies: Miss P.
