AQUATICS.

The bad weather prevailing during the past week has greatly interfered with yachtsmen getting their boats in readiness for launching, but if the weather improves next week there should be a great many in the water.

Thelma. Aorere, and Maratoa were launched from the North Shore last evening, and towed over to their moorings on the southern side of the harbour. ( St. George's Rowing. Club holds its first "At Home" of the season on Saturday next, when trophies presented by the commodore (Mr. Thomas Russell) will be competed for. The opening of the rowing season last Saturday was the best function of its kind ever held on the Waitemata. The weather was perfect, and there was a full muster of boats from all the clubs. I was pleased to see that the oarsmen did not go in for any racing during the procession, and all the crews are to be complimented upon the excellent time kept throughout. The first " At Home" and trial fours of the season of West End Rowing Club take place on Satin-day afternoon next, for which a large number ot invitations have been issued. The first prizes arc trophies presented by Mr. Thomas Peacock (patron), the club providing jerseys as second prizes. Through the kindness of Messrs. William Jagger and Tempest, St. George's Club was able to treat its vice-presidents and friends to a pleasant afternoon at the opening of the rowing season on Saturday last.

The local yacht builders are all very busy just now getting yachts ready for launching, and pushing on with the work on new launches etc. Messrs. Logan Brothers expect to have Mr. W. S. Whitley's oil launch ready for the opening of the season, November 9. West End Rowing Club was well represented at the opening of the rowing season last Saturday, having 13 boats, seating 70 members, engaged in the procession. The club would have had a much larger representation on the occasion had the oars ordered from Melbourne come to hand.

St. George's Club had a good muster at' the opening of the season on Saturday last, some 11 boats taking part. The following are the crews chosen to compete at St. George's Rowing Club's trial fours on Saturday next: —(1) Saunders, Kelly, Tappley, Hay; (2) Richards, Gilmour, Harper, Lindsay; (3) T. Stone, Whitley, J. O'Sullivan, Oonnell; (4) Whitley, Steele, Thornes, Keane; (5) E. Stone, Totton, Gumming, Laurie; (6) Littlejohn, Dunn, Mclsaacs, Innis. Pair oars: (1) Stubbs and Steele; (2) Hume and Sinn; (3) Laurie and Peacock; (4) Baker and Allen; (5) D'Arcy and Basley.

PARNELL SAILING CLUB. The annual meeting of the Parnell Sailing Club was held in the Exchange Hotel, Parnell, on Tuesday evening last. There was a fair attendance of members, and Mr. A. Stuart (commodore) presided. The report and balance-sheet, which were of a satisfactory nature, were adopted. The following were tho officers elected for next sea-son:—-Commodore, Mr. A. Stuart; vicecommodore, Mr. H. Morris; rear-commo-dore, Mr. W. Jagger; committee, Messrs. 0. Kilfoyle, G. Grimmer, C. Collings, B. Gilmer, G. Carter, and Keogh; measurers, Messrs. A. Stuart and Ronayne; handicapper, Mr. C. Kilfoyle; judge and timekeeper, Mr. W. S. Whitley; 'starter, Mr. C. Tapper; auditor, Mr. A. G. Buchanan; treasurer, Mr. F, M. Jervia; hon. secretary, Mr. M. Evitt, The committee arranged two series of races, the first series on November 28, and the second series on February 6. 1904.

NORTH SHORE YACHT CLUB. The above club held its annual meeting on Monday last in the Council Chambers, Devonport. Mr. J. Dunning (commodore) presided, and there was a large attendance of members. The report congratulated the club on the great success of all its functions during the past season, the entries being well maintained for all classes, while the ocean race, club cruise, motor launch race, picnic, and social were all successfully carried out. The balance-sheet showed receipts £49 163 6d, and expenditure £48 16s 6d, leaving balance in hand of £1. The following officers were elected for the season : —Commodore, Mr. Jas. Dunning; vice-commodore, Mr. J. Alexander; rear-commodore, Mr. J. W. Frater; hon. secretary, Mr. W. A. Wilkinson; hon, treasurer, Mr. A. Sutherland; starter, timekeeper, and umpire, Mr. W. A. Wilkinson; auditor, Mr. J. C. Webster; committee, Messrs. A. E. Alison, A. Mays, R. Farquhar, S. Hutchison, and Captain Gibbs; handiaabpers, Captain Gibbs and Messrs. W. A. Wilkinson and R. Farquhar. It was decided to add a, class for tuck-stern centreboard boats, 24ft to 26ft overall. The annual subscription was fixed at 7s 6d. The following dates were decided on for club events:—Opening cruise, November 14; first club races, December 12; second club races, January 9; third club races and motor race, February 13 ocean race to Awaroa, January 16; ocean race to Kawau, February 6; ocean race to Rakino, April 9; club picuio to Kohimarama. March 5; general handicap, March 12. Messrs. Dunning, Alexander, Frater, and several other gentlemen promised trophies. The membership of the club stands at 81 active and 10 honorary, and 26 new members were proposed. It was resolved to send a letter of sympathy to Captain H. Parker in his recent illness. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the ladies who assisted at the club's social, to Mr. and Mrs. Gordon, of Awaroa, and Mr. and Mrs. J. Quinn, of Rakino, who so hospitably entertained the club at their respective homes, also to those gentlemen who donated trophies, and Mr. R. B. Spiuks, for assistance with motor race, to Mr. A. Alison for a steamer for the picnic, and many other kindnesses, and to tho press for their good offices. A vote of thanks to the chairman concluded the business. Lynx.
