SWIMMING.
The 14th annual meeting of the Auckland Swimming Club was held in the Sports Clubrooms on Wednesday evening last, when there was a large attendance of members and supporters. Considerable enthusiasm was shown, and indications pointed to a successful season. Fifteen new candidates were put up for election as members of the club, among them being Mr. Geo. Katterns, the well-known referee, who is always ready to assist in the advancement of sport. Mr. Katterns was also elected as a member of the committee. Mr. R. A. Lendrum, who takes an active interest in the Fousonby Regatta and Football Club, was also added to the list of committeemen, and should prove a welcome addition. Mr. E. Burke is another who was appointed on the committee, and as he has been a most energeticmember of the club for some years, his services should be of value to the working executive.
Everything points to an early season, and the committee of the A.S.C. intends making a start as soon a3 the weather is settled. Once going there will be plenty of sport for competitive members. Swimmers generally will regret to hear that Mr. P. H. Hughes, the energetic secretary of the A.S.C, has boen confined to his home through illness for the last month, which accounts for his absence from the annual meeting last Wednesday. I trust that he will, soon be sufficiently recovered to attend to his business and the affairs of the club. The members have acted wisely in appointing a joint secretary in the person of Mr. W. Kay, who may be depended upon to do his utmost to further the interests of the club,
