The grass on the course inside the domain at One-tree Hill has been all cut during the week, and there is a great improvement in the state of the ground, owing to the fact that very little rain has fallen since last Saturday. The two new greens in the tramway paddock are getting on well, and have been top-dressed. They will probably be playable on Saturday week. Mr. D. G. Soutar, Australian champion and member of the Marriekville Club, secured another championship last Saturday week, the latest being the title of champion of New South Wales, in the final for which he defeated Mr. H. B. Gritton by 10 up and eight to play. Soutar is also champion of the club to which he belongs. An American cable message of Monday, September 7, informed the London Daily Mail readers that on the day mentioned a picked team of United States golfers beat the Oxford and Cambridge Golfing Society's team by five matches to four-. Home papers by the last English mail state that Miss llhona Adair, holder of the ladies' golf championship, intended leaving shortly on a visit to America. Miss Adair, who also won the championship of 1900 and the Irish championship these last three years, is to visit Mrs. Grisoom, of Philadelphia. Miss Frances Griscom, of the Philadelphia Club, won the championship of America in 1900 at Shinnecock Hills. An interesting golf match was seen at North Berwick recently between Miss Rhona Adair, the lady champion, and Ben Sayers, the well-known local professional (says the London Daily Mail). The latter, who conceded a half, held a slight advantage outward and turned with a lead of two holes. Miss Adair started the home journey in promising fashion, but ftayers, showing excellent form, ultimately won by three holes up and one to play.
