CROWN LANDS BOARD.

The - ordinary meeting of the Auckland Crown Lands Board was held yesterday at the Board's offices, Custom-street West, Mr. Gerhard Mueller, Commissioner of Crown Lands, presiding. '. There were also present: Messrs. Jas. Renshaw.and A. R. Harris. Lands Summary: The summary of lands disposed,of from September 24 to October 22 was as follows:—Occupation with right of purchase, .5110 acres; leases in perpetuity, 1687 acres; cash purchases, 75 acres; mining district leases, 950 acres. In all, 45 selectors took up 7822 acres. Sequel to a fire: A communication was received from th© Minister for Lands regarding the case of Mr. E. Taffard, who lost his, house, cellars, and 1000 gallons of wins by fire. "Mr. Mueller said ho had written to Mr. Taffard, stating that the Board would be ready to ghe any request he might make duo consideration. -.. It was resolved to in : form Mr. Taffard that while the Board could not remit any rental payments, they would not press for any rental payments between the present date and December 31, 1905. To. Await Report: An application by W. Bearsford for part of the kauri gum reserve on block 7, was considered, together with correspondence from the Government, asking that Bearsford be given a certificate, as a petition had been received stating that.the gum was worked out on this ground. The chairman remarked that if the ground wore withdrawn from the kauri gum ; reserve, it became ordinary Crown lands. The Board could act give a -certificate, as the ground must be open for selection. Mr. Harris siiic the Board could not go in for any hole-and-corner work. It was hard to tell when gum land was worked out. •At Papakura fields were, being now worked that had been supposed to be cleaned out 30 years ago. It was resolved to get a special report upon the land and its gum-bearing qualities from the ranger at present in the district. Timber Flotage Licenses: An application by Messrs. Smith Brothers for two timber flotage licenses, one for the Wairoa and tributaries and the other- for the Pahi and tributaries, was granted. An application foi a timber flotage license for. the Waiau River, at Coromandel, was made by Messrs. Cash moire Brothers. Two objections had beer raised to the granting of the license. II was decided, on the motion of Mr. Renshaw, to inform the applicants of the objection! received, and to request them to see the objectors, with a view to arranging about the ■requisite'protective, works.'". Creighton, 'to be allowed to transfer hie sawmill license at Wairhamaku to the Kaur: Timber Company, was refused, and it was decided to inform Mr. Creighton that tin application may be renewed after March 21 next, provided he has then complied wit! the conditions in the erection of a sawmill ii the Waimamaku Valley. . Scenery Reserves: A letter from the Sur veyOr-General, relative to. no provision hav iug been made in posters 716, 717, .718, 719 and 720, for scenery purposes, was consid ered, and it was decided to reserve for seen ery section 6, block 10, at Waaku; section 1 block 12, Punakitere; section 4, block 4 Hapuakohi; section 19, block 8, Waiporea; section 5.8., 101, and N.W., 102, Tauroroa 'Parish; section 67, block 2, Whangape. Application Refused: An application bj H. K. Wick, for a sawmill license, to cut rimu on part of block 13, Mamaku, and take the timber to mills at Mamaku, was refused, the Board deciding to grant no timber areas so near to a railway station. . Application for Sawmill License: An application from W. J. Gray; of Katikati, for a sawmill license within blocks 7 and 8,-Kati-kati, which was deferred from meeting, pending further information, was again considered. It was decided to refuse the granting of further timber areas within the Uri tara Creek;, watershed' until- the quantity o marketable-timber still available therein hac been ascertained. ----- '""ijUH.^.
