PAKURANGA HUNT CLUB

The Fakuranga Hunt Club met at noon on Saturday at the monument, Otahuhu, and the master (Mr. E. D. O'Rorke) directed a move towards Sir. Discombe's farm on the Otahuhu side of the Sylvia Park Estate, where a hare was drawn for in some cultivated land without success. The pack was then taken down near the banks of the Ta- , malci River, and here a hare was unfor- ; tunately chopped near some stones after it : had cone a few yards. The members then, crossed Wallace's farm to Sylvia Park, and i while returning to Wallace's a big hare ■ started up' among the followers and was soon speeding away across property and across Sylvia Park with the hounds in full cry. The quarry ran right down towards Panmure, and crossing Messrs. Stevenson's and Gollan's farms skirted the water's edge and doubled back to Wallace's. Here a slight- check occurred, but the hare was seen am "tossed into Discombe's property. The pack, however, were unable to follow the line till, a spectator on the hill viewed the quarry, which was very tired, but had a good start of the hounds. Puss then crossed the Panmure Road, and after covering Morrison's farm, was lost on Thorburn's property. This hare was a particularly fine one, and the run, which was over stout timber and walled country, proved most enjoyable, and left not a few empty saddles. At half-past two o'clock Bailey's hill was drawn, and anothei* hare immediately chopped. A hare was, however, started on Mr. Horner's land on the opposite side of the hill, and led the followers a merry dance right down to Sylvia Park, through Kitson's and part of Hamlin's property and back to Horner's, where she was lost. As the hour was getting late it was then decided to discontinue. The hounds were in splendid fettlo and ran well, and were particularly steady when a herd oi cattle was run through. The following was a very large one, and a great number of spectators, who were either riding or driving, witnessed the sport from the slopes ol Sylvia Park Hill. Amongst those following were Lady Constance Knox, Lord Northland and the Hon. H. Butler. Tho meet on Wednesday next will lie at the ScotchChurch, Otahuhu, and on Juno 15 those members who can get away will proceed to the Pukekohe and Waiuku districts for a week's hunting.
