The dockers and others engaged in water transport have struck, while the diamond cutters have struck in turn in sympathy with them. The streets of Amsterdam are so crowded with demonstrators, roughs, and idlers of # every description that the police, in'order to disperse them, were obliged to draw their sabres, with the result that one man had his hand severed.
