STRIKE RIOTS ON THE CONTINENT.
SERIOUS SITUATION IN HOLLAND. DISTURBANCES IN AMSTERDAM. By Telegraph.— Association.Copyright. Amsterdam, April 7. The dockers and others engaged in water transport have struck, while the diamond cutters have struck in turn in sympathy with them. The streets of Amsterdam are so crowded with demonstrators, roughs, and idlers of # every description that the police, in'order to disperse them, were obliged to draw their sabres, with the result that one man had his hand severed. The gendarmes and Dragoons charged the mob,' and several persons were trampled. The authorities declare that the horses became affrighted. A meeting of 3000 dockers at Rotterdam has decided to join the railway strikers and a general strike of bakers has been ordered. Berne, April 7. Two thousand five hundred masons at Basle who have struck work stoned the police, who were protecting non-strikers, and the troops had to be summoned. (Received April 9, 12.53 a.m.) Amsterdam, April 8. A general lockout has been declared at Amsterdam. Some enginedrivers at Rotterdam have resumed work.
