THE LATE SIR HECTOR MACDONALD.

Lady Macdonaud and family have thanked the War Office for its sympathy and for the arrangements made in connection 'with the funeral of the late Sir Hector Macdonald. FEELING IN WELLINGTON. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Monday. The Rev. William Thomson, of the Scots Church, again preached last night in defence of the late Sir Hector Macdonald, and asked the congregation to bear in mind that the best men were sometimes hounded to death -by unprincipled persons who cared little for the reputation of their fellows. On the invitation of Mr. Thomson, a large number of persons stayed after the service to consider what steps should be taken locally to protect the memory and reputation of Sir Hector Macdonald. It was decided to send a deputation to the Mayor of Wellington to ask him to call a public meeting on the question. The Wellington Gaelic Society, through its chief, Mr. A. Macdonald, has arranged by cable to have a wreath placed on the grave of Sir Hector Macdonald.
