AUCKLAND ROWING ASSOCIATION. The above association held a meeting at the Waitemata Hotel on Friday evening last to pre=9nt the pennant and bannerette kindly presented to the association by Mr. 11. A. Marrinei, and also to present association caps to the winners of the championship event at the Lake Takapuna regatta. In the unavoidable absence of Mr. J. H. Witheford, M.H.E., the president of the association, the chairman of the committee (Mr. W. Swinnerton) took the chah. In his opening remarks the Chairman referred to the success of the regatta hold at Lake Takanuna and hoped to sec the association holding two regattas next season. When calling on Mr. Marriner to present the pennant he alluded to the fact that it had infused a considerable amount of enthusiasm into the local rowing clubs. Mr. Marriner, in making the presentation to the Waitemata Boating Club, who have succeeded in winning the pennant this season, expressed his pleasure that most oi the races this season had been very keenly fought out, which he considered was due to the crews having something to gain by even getting placed third. He was pleased to see that the Waitemata Boating Club had gained the flag this season, as they were the only olub to send crews to represent Auckland at the championship regatta at Wauganui in February' last, and their success came a3 quite a surprise to the Southern oarsmen, both there and at Wellington. Mr. Marriner then presented the pennant to Mr. Ever?, captain of the_ club, who suitably replied. Mr. Marriner, in presenting orders for association caps to the Auckland Rowing Club's senior crew, referred to their good work this season, and said ho would have boon pleased to have seen thorn at the championship regatta at Wauganui, as even if they had not won the event it would have given them experience. He then presented the orders to Hie crew—ll. H. Kucli (stroke), W. , J. Lovett, A. E. Forshaw, G. Griffin (bow), and the cox., D. Tucker. \ftef the health of Mr. Marriner had been pledged the meeting terminated with a vole of thanks to the chairman. MANUKAU YACHT CLUB. The ninth race of the season in connection with the above club was sailed on Saturday afternoon last for a handsome clock, presented by Mr. Dalaiel, and cash prizes. There was a strong north-east breeze blowing in the early part of the- race, but it decreased in strength in the second round. The following were the handicaps:—Maka Maile, scratch; Moa, 3m. ; Belle, 5m.: Malua, 7m.: Elsie, 7m. : Alma, 10m.; Ladysmith, 14-m. • Endeavour, ISm. ; Fedora, 22m.; Pretoria, 22m.; Myrtle, 22m.; Mascotto, 21m.; Presto, 25m. ; Industry, 25m.; Daisy, 33m.: Petrol, 55m.; and Esma, 39m. All the yachts got well away to time, with the exception of Malua, which had the misfortune to break her boom at starting, thereby put tine her hopelessly out of the race. By the timo tho scratch boat had started Daisy and Industry, with their big start, had rounded the mark-buoy for the beat back, the other boats rounding a few minutes after. Daisy maintained her lead right up to t. ! wharf, when she dropped out, Industry coming into first place. The lead down to the buoy the second time brought Maka Maile well up with the leading boats and soon after rounding the buoy Alma and Maka Maile h?_d taken leading positions. Slim. Maka Maile is now leading for the handicap cup by six points. The club's extended, or "ocean' raco to Cornwallis on Good Friday promises to be a success, no fewer than 11 yachts having entered. Tho handicaps, which will he drawn out for "on" and "off" the _ wind, are to bs sealed handicaps, thus inducing all the boats to finish. Tho raco on the 18th inst. will probably bo the last race of the season.
