POLICE COURT NEWS. MB. H. "W. Bhabant, S.M., presided at the police Court on Saturday morning. Edward Bees Campbell pleaded not guilty to a charge of committing an indecent act at Newton on Friday night. After hearing Constable Macartney, the cas? was adjourned till to-day to enable the accused to call evidence in bis own behalf. He was relc&sed on his own recognisance in the meantime. Four first-offending persons, charged with drunkenness, were convicted and discharged on payment- of cab hire. John Joseph Callnan, similarly charged, was fined ss, or in default 21 hours' imprisonment. "William Wilcox. an old age pensioner, was also charged with drunkenness on the s.s. Vivid. District Constable Rowe said he had repeatedly warned the accused against his continued intemperate habits. Witness added that accused spent tin greater part of his pension money in chink. Accused was remanded till to-day for medical treatment.
