THE WEATHER.
FLOODS IN THE SOUTH. The rainfall during the latter part of last week was heavy. The rainfall for the 24 hours ending nine a.m. on Friday, was over an inch, and for the succeeding' 24 hours a fraction over jin. No damage is reported from the Auckland district, but floods are reported in the South. [BY TELEGRAPH. PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Christchttbch, Sunday. The floods on Wednesday did a good deal of damage. At Little Fiver bridges were swept away and cattle drowned. The main road to Akaroa is not yet passable, the mails having to be conveyed by pack horse. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN" CORRESPONDENT.] Paeroa, Saturday. Last night for several hours, flashes of lightning played round the eastern sky, some of the flashes lasting several seconds. Soon, after midnight very heavy rain fell.
