HONEY - POISONING AT VICTORIA VALLEY
A. gEßious case of honey poisoning occurred at Pamapuria, Victoria- Valley, on February 28. A : large quantity of ' bush honey had been gathered by a party of Maoris. They ate heartily of it,- with tie result that 10 of them became ill towards" evening, two very seriously. Word was sent to Mr. T. W. P. Smith, Kaitafa, "who" sent medicines and instructions. By Friday morning the 10 were recovering, but another eight developed symptoms of ' poisoning. . Re§tpratiyeg ;■ imn}p{hatply applied, with the resujt that all are . npw convalescent. •' Mr. Sipith treated thog? affected with 30 grains ipecacuanha powder, graded according to ages for women and children, followed by plenty of warm salted water until the 7 stomach 7?fl| emptied. Then, a few doses of brandy and water (half "and i half) . every flalf-lmur. Every one recovered.
