THE SAN FRANCISCO MAIL.
DEPARTURE OF THE VENTURA. Tins mail steamer Ventura arrived from Sydney ' 'early yesterday morning, making a good passage of three days 12 hours U minutes, the steamer's speed coming down the coast having been ' considerably reduced in order not to make port at too early an hour. Very fine weather prevailed in the Tasnutn Sea, and the passengers enjoyed the trip very much. The steamer was' granted pratique shortly after arrival, and berthed 'at the Quesn-street where "the passengers ' and mails were' at once landed, and the work of taking" in 1 outward " cargo ' proceeded with, and 'was carried out in record time, the •whole of the consignments, consisting of 853 tons, being put' on board in less than five -Hours.'' " The ' Ventura's popularity with the travelling public ris once again evidenced by the large number of passengers she had on board this' trip,' tire number in fill classes 1 being " 150, of whom 40 landed at Auckland, and the list was considerably added to"at this port, the steamer leaving with "nearly. 200 in all classes. Amopgst the passengers were a number from Australia who are proceeding to Zion settlement, formed in the United States by the Rev. J. P. Dowie. The steamer's cargo from Auckland was also a large one, comprising shipments of meats, 'etc., (or Samoa; canned' mullet and onions for Honolulu; and 1537 pales flak and large litea of onions, pelts, etc., for' San Francisco. ' ' ' The : Ventura ''proceeded on her voyage at half-past , two o'clock yesterday ' afternoon. and is due at San Francisco on March 23.*
