INFECTIOUS DISEASES HOSPITAL.
<» ' Yesteuba? afternoon, at the Municipal Buildings, Dr. Mason (chief health officer for the colony) conferred with His Worship the Mayor (Mr. A. lvidu) and representatives of local bodies interested on detail matters concerning the infectious diseases hospital, to he erected at Point Chevalier. Rough plans of tho proposed buildings, prepared in Wellington, were submitted, and it was decided to authorise tho acceptance of the same, subject to any minor alterations deemed necessary, and the amount contributed by the bodies interested (51 in all) did not exceed £8500. This, with the Government £ for £ subsidy, will provide for grounds and buildings at a total cost not exceeding £17,000. The Government will give five acres cf land, and the proposal is to purchase an additional 40 acres, giving an area of 45 acres, thus allowingl the hospital to remain well clear of private properties, even should there be a large increase of population at Point Chevalier at some future date. The plans before tho meeting provided for accommodation for between 30 and 40 patients, besides sleeping quarters for the resident staff, etc. The hospital will be Maintained by the levy on the various bodies concerned of a rate- similar to the present rate imposed for charitable aid and hospital maintenance, and, as the plans have now been practically dealt with and details arranged, it is expected that tenders will be called for the erection of the hospital buildings at an early dato.
