PARLIAMENTARY NEWS.
[BY TELEGRAPH. — SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington. Monday. THE LAND BILL. •' I The committee appointed to consider the Land Bill meets on Wednesday. The Bill has not caused as much comment as might have been expected, because members do not seem to think it will be pushed. At all events it is certain that it will not. go through in its present form. I know of several members who are prepared to stop a week in their seats rather than let that clause which aims at the freehold get through. If the Government push the Bill we may expect the straggle of the session. STUD BILL. A sub-committee consisting of the Hon. J. D. Ormond, Hon. A. Lee Smith, Messrs. Massey and Buddo, has been hearing witnesses on the Stud Bill, with the object of forwarding the evidence and a, series of questions to the agricultural associations and farmers' unions throughout the colony for their consideration during the recess. So far the evidence is said to be decidedly against legislation on the subject. It is said that the evidence when printed will make interesting reading for breeders and farmers. THE PUBLIC WORKS STATEMENT. Ministers have been sitting in Cabinet all day putting the final touches to the Estimates, so members are expecting the Statement down this week. THE FROZEN MEAT INDUSTRY. Mr. Buddo, the chairman of the commit- ' tee appointed to inquire into matters connected with the frozen meat industry, states that amongst those asked to give evidence are the presidents of agricultural and pastoral associations, managers of freezing works, buyers who export, farmers who export, and two representatives of the Farmers' Union in each provincial district. In all some 70 witnesses have been invited to give evidence, so that if even half the number come before the committee the proceedings are likely to be somewhat protracted. The committee will sit to-morrow to take evidence. _____________»____,
