The funeral of Alan, the youngest son of the Rev. E. J. McFarland. vicar, took place on Tuesday afternoon, and was largely attended. Tho large number of floral emblems, which surrounded the coffin, bore witness to the deep sympathy felt for the parents in their sad loss, just on the eve of their removal to Auckland. The funeral service was impressively read by Mr. A. Momson, lay reader, and at the elope a beautiful prayer was said bv the Rev. T. Wall, Presbye"a. minister, and in the place of Love (Te Aroha). where his young life was spent, and near to his friends and playmates, the mortal remains were laid to rest. '

Lii.tr; Madam Kidson; a vocal duet by too Misses Martin; pianoforte (laet by Misses Kelly and Grant; recitations JIT. F IOBBI6 Hornibrook, Gladys Pitkeithley, Olive Sisson. Eric Inder; and a reading by Mr. James Carnell. •

A meeting was held on Thursday evening in the County Social Hall for the purpose of forming a ping-pong club. There was a. pood muster. Mr. 0. It. .Walker, president of the Lawn Tennis Club, was in the chair. After considerable discussion the following committee, was appointed, vis.. Misses Newton and .Tames and Messi*. Walker, Miller*, and Steadman. for mahinf arrangements for carrying out the object* of the club. A suitable hall is to be obtained. Special evenings during the winter are to be set apart; for tournaments, etc.
