A meeting of the Farmers' Union to-day adopted resolutions that loans to local bodies should be relieved of the mortgage tax; that ratepayers should have the appointment of at least one expert valuer to sit on the Assessment Bench ; that substantial contractors should be encouraged to take Government contracts, and competent men should have preference to co-operative labour ; that the Government should be approached with g, view of getting a reduction of the land tax.
